Air Fryer Bacon-Wrapped Dates

⏱ 31 min · 🍽️ 16 Portionen · 🧂 5 Zutaten

Zutaten

  • 16 piece dried dates (stoned)
  • 100 g cream cheese
  • pepper to taste
  • 8 slice streaky bacon (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Zubereitung

  1. Slit the dried dates lengthways without cutting them right through and check that there really is no stone left inside.
  2. Mix the cream cheese with the pepper and fill it into the dates with a small spoon. Then press the cut lightly back together.
  3. Halve the slices of streaky bacon lengthways and wrap each date tightly in one. Keep the seam underneath, as it then sticks down by itself while cooking and the bacon does not unroll.
  4. Brush the rolls thinly with the olive oil. No further seasoning is needed, since the streaky bacon brings enough of its own.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 200 °C.
  6. Lay the dates seam side down in the basket in a single layer with space between them and do not stack anything; cook larger quantities in two batches. Cook at 200 °C.
  7. Turn the rolls with tongs so that the underside takes on colour too. Finish cooking at 200 °C until the bacon is golden and crisp — it must not go dark, because the sugar in the dates caramelises quickly and then turns bitter.
  8. Drain the dates briefly on kitchen paper and serve them warm, as the filling is very hot straight out of the basket.

Air Fryer Bacon-Wrapped Dates

A German buffet classic that comes to the table all over the country at New Year and at every other celebration: dates filled with cream cheese and wrapped in streaky bacon. In the basket the bacon turns crisp all round without fat spitting in a pan — but only eight fit side by side, so the rest have to wait for a second batch. Sweet, salty and creamy all at once, and best served warm.
