Ingredients

  • 400 g macaroni
  • 250 g grated cheddar
  • 100 g grated gruyère
  • 500 ml milk
  • 40 g butter
  • 40 g flour
  • 50 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni in plenty of salted water until al dente, then drain.
  2. Melt the butter in a pot, stir in the flour and cook briefly, then gradually pour in the milk, whisking into a smooth sauce.
  3. Melt the cheddar and gruyère into the hot sauce, season with nutmeg, salt and pepper, then fold in the macaroni.
  4. Transfer to a baking dish, scatter with breadcrumbs and bake at 200 °C until golden and bubbling.
