Bread Dumplings in Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients

  • 250 g stale bread rolls, diced
  • 250 ml milk, warm
  • 2 piece eggs
  • 1 piece onion
  • 400 g mixed mushrooms
  • 200 ml cream
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Pour the warm milk over the diced bread rolls and let soak for 15 minutes. Mix in the eggs, half the chopped onion, nutmeg, salt and parsley.
  2. With damp hands, shape the mixture into dumplings and simmer gently in salted water for 15 minutes until they float to the top.
  3. For the sauce, fry the remaining onion and the mushrooms in butter over high heat until the liquid has evaporated.
  4. Pour in the cream, let it reduce briefly, season with salt and pepper, and serve the dumplings with plenty of parsley and the creamy mushroom sauce.
