Air Fryer Cheese-Topped Bread Rolls

⏱ 18 min · 🍽️ 4 Servings · 🧂 5 Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 piece Bread rolls
  • 2 tbsp Cream cheese
  • 150 g grated hard cheese
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1 bunch Chives

Instructions

  1. Halve the rolls horizontally and spread the cut surfaces thinly with the cream cheese.
  2. Scatter the grated hard cheese evenly on top, press it down lightly and dust it with the sweet paprika. Loose cheese does not belong in the basket, as it drips through the grid and burns — here the roll holds it.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C.
  4. Lay the halves in the basket in a single layer with space between them and do not stack anything; brown larger quantities in two batches. Brown at 180 °C until the cheese has melted and the roll is 70 °C hot all the way through.
  5. Do not turn the halves over, or the whole topping falls into the basket. If you like the cheese darker, pull the basket out, take a look and cook it for another minute.
  6. Snip the chives into fine rings, scatter them over the hot halves and bring them to the table at once.

Air Fryer Cheese-Topped Bread Rolls

A German snack for all of Germany: halved rolls are spread with cream cheese, covered thickly with grated cheese and browned in the basket. The cheese bubbles up and turns golden brown at the edges, while the roll underneath stays soft and only crisps on the outside. The basket is hot faster than a big oven, but only four halves fit side by side and the rest wait for the second batch.
