Ingredients

  • 750 g strawberries
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 piece unwaxed lemon
  • 1.5 l dry white wine (chilled)
  • 0.75 l dry sparkling wine (chilled)
  • 200 g ice cubes
  • 1 bunch mint

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries briefly, drain them well and only then cut out the hulls. Leave small berries whole and halve or quarter large ones.
  2. Put the berries into a punch bowl with the sugar and the juice of the lemon and mix them carefully.
  3. Pour in about 200 ml of the white wine, cover and leave the berries to steep in the fridge.
  4. Pour in the remaining white wine and keep the punch cold until serving.
  5. Just before serving, add the ice cubes and slowly pour the ice-cold sparkling wine down the side of the bowl.
  6. Pluck the mint leaves from the stalks, scatter them over the punch and ladle it into glasses straight away.

Erdbeerbowle (strawberry wine punch)

A German summer classic served all over the country, from confirmation parties to garden gatherings: fully ripe strawberries steep with sugar and lemon in dry white wine, and the sparkling wine goes in only just before serving. The berries tint the punch a delicate pink, take on the wine themselves and taste in the end like a little dessert in a glass. The recipe makes a good two and a half litres.
